To get to the top, you have to make mistakes. If you never make a mistake, that means you have never pushed the limit enough to see what works. And if you don’t push the limit, you’ll forever stay in a comfort zone that breeds mediocrity. It’s those who learn from their mistakes and persevere through the mistakes, that make it to the top. For example, Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, and Bill Walsh accounted for 9 of the 15 Super Bawl victories from 1974 to 1989. But what you probably didn’t know is, they also had the worst records of first-season head coaches in NFL history. Learn from your mistakes, maintain confidence, and persevere.

If you want to succeed, you have to love what you do. Education isn’t enough. Experience isn’t enough. Goal setting isn’t enough. You have to love it so much that you should be shocked that you get paid to do it. If you don’t feel that way, then do some serious self-reflection and figure out what it is you love to do-then do it. No matter what you do, don’t do it for the love of money. Money is the result of what we do, not the goal of what we do.
See success before it happens. Create a motion picture in your mind of the exact results you want to achieve. See it. Feel it, Touch it-in your mind. All great athletes do this whether it’s snow skiers visualizing their run down the mountain or surfers visualizing riding a 20-foot wave. If you can see success in your mind before it happens, you make it much more likely that it will happen.
Frequently we’re told to spend time improving our weaknesses. Wrong. You’ll never get to the top by making your weaknesses less weak. But you will get to the top by making your strengths even stronger. Delegate your weaknesses to other people who have them as strengths. Focus on improving your strengths so you can become an expert at what you do (or become the only one who does what you do).
